Kwadukuza Welcomes Mr Price Pro Ballito Beach Festival

2013/05/08

This July, the spectacular winter waves of Willard’s Beach will play host once more to the ASP Prime rated Mr Price Pro Ballito surfing event. The competition will run from July 1 to 7 and is theAfrican continent’s only internationally rated professional surf event. Since its inception, the Mr Price Pro Ballito has earned a reputation as Africa’s biggest and best surf, beach and lifestyle event, with the Mr Price Pro Ballito Beach Festival that runs simultaneously with the competition.

"The hosting of the Mr Price Pro Ballito Sporting & Lifestyle Event is a highlight for this region. This year we have prepared yet another action packed programme that is set to attract both our international & domestic visitors. We look forward to welcoming all to KwaDukuza and to showcase the very best of what we have to make your visit a pleasurable one."said KwaDukuza municipality events co-ordinator, Collette Bundy.

As well as boasting impressive retail opportunities, the festival seeks to provide constant and varied entertainment- the highlight of which is the Free Music Concerts taking place at Salt Rock on the 4th, 5th and 6th July. The stage will host almost twenty bands over three days, including such talented and renowned acts as, Gangs of Ballet, aKing, and iSceam and the Chocolate Stix. The headlining acts for Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be Big Nuz, Prime Circle, and Pascal & Pearce respectively. Prime Circle boast an equally prestigious career, with several record-breaking albums to their name. In 2011, they won the MK Award for Best International Breakthrough Act. In addition to this, leading DJ’s- DJ Milkshake, and DJ Dino Bravo, will be closing acts at the concert. DJ Milkshake has gained a reputation as one of South Africa’s most versatile DJs, with a multicultural appeal that won him his own show on 5fm radio in 2010, The Shakedown. DJ Dino Bravo’s Latin inspi red beats earned his 2003 album Bravomania platinum status, an achievement that he has only built upon since then. With acts of such calibre set to rock the stage, the Beach Festival’s free concerts look set to be a real hit.

The concerts are just one aspect of the Beach Festival’s impressive array of entertainments, however. Guests will also have the opportunity to make the most of the festival’s Beach Mania programme, which aims to get children and adults alike involved in beach sports, making the most of the event’s location. The KwaDukuza LED Sports Unit and the RedCap Foundation will also be hosting soccer leagues and fun days throughout the duration of the festival, with the goal of entertaining and integrating young people from all social groups. For those who prefer spectating to participating, last year’s hugely popular extreme sports demonstrations return to the festival once more, with BMX, breakdance, wakeskate and Parkour showcases set to wow the crowds. The event will also provide a stage for various educational campaigns, including initiatives concerning the effect of clima te change on local coastlines.

As if that weren’t enough, this year’s extravaganza will see the addition of a three day Food and Wine festival running from July 2 to 4, enabling crowds to experience new tastes and ensure that absolutely all of their senses are satisfied.

Ever since the Mr Price Pro touched down in Ballito in 2009 and through the Public Private Partnership formed with the KwaDukuza Municipality the event has chosen to support the RedCap Foundation which is a non-profit organisation that carries out the Corporate Social Investment projects for the Mr Price Group. Keeping in line with the foundation’s mission to inspire tomorrow’s heroes and tackling national challenges in education, health and unemployment the RedCap Foundation has partnered with the KwaDukuza Municipality to make a positive difference in the lives of young South Africans in the KwaDukuza region.
