Mr Price Pro Ballito Concerts Set To Light Up Salt Rock Beach For Three Days In July

2013/06/07

This winter, the annual Mr Price Pro Ballito Beach Festival returns to Ballito, bringing with it the much anticipated Live Beach Fest. The concerts, which will be free for all festival goers, will be held at Salt Rock beach on the 4th, 5th and 6th of July and boast spectacular line-ups featuring the best of South African musical talent.  Each evening will centre around a specific genre, accounting for all tastes and enabling guests to get the very most out of their experience.

Thursday 4th July will offer guests a night of Kwaito, hip hop, Afro pop and Afro jazz that is sure to get the crowds on their feet. The whole event will be kicked off at 4:30pm by AmaWrongTurn and local hip hop artist Awgust Rush from which point on the audience will be treated to almost six solid hours of the very best musical entertainment including Durban legend DJ Tira, culminating with headliners Big Nuz and Mafikizolo. Durban Kwaito artists Big Nuz, made up of the trio Mandla Maphumulo, Mzi Tshomela and Sbu Khomo launched their name in the music industry with the released of their album ‘2nd Round Knockout’ which sold more than 20 000 copies. The group also walked away with three South African Music Awards in 2010. After a long break, Mafikizolo have come back with a bang! The duo that are known for their Afro-pop style, have moved on to become an African house sens ation with the release their seventh CD, titled Reunited. In addition to this, DJ Milkshake, who has gained a reputation as one of South Africa’s most versatile DJs, with a degree of popularity that reflects his multicultural appeal will be the closing act.

Friday’s music aims to cater to those with a penchant for something slightly heavier, with a distinctly rock and pop theme. Johannesburg rock band Wonderboom will get the evening’s festivities underway, followed by a stellar line-up including Die Heuwels Fantasties, Shadow Club, aKing and ISO. The evening’s headline spot will be more than ably filled by Prime Circle, who have earned their name as the most successful rock act in South Africa’s history with a record-breaking career spanning the last eleven years. In July, they will just have returned from touring Europe with world-famous rock band, 3 Doors Down.

As the final day of the concerts, the line-up for Saturday 6th has been specifically designed to keep the audience dancing until well into the evening. The bill is dedicated to techno, house, dance and DJ music, ensuring that there will be no shortage of beats to move to. Highlights of the night will include Gangs of Ballet, electro-dance masters iScream & the Chocolate Stix and DJ duo Pascal & Pearce. All of the bands are well-used to burning up the dancefloors of clubs all over the country, and together guarantee a night of epic proportions. Dino Bravo’s Latin-inspired grooves will close Saturday’s concert, as well as the entire Mr Price Pro Ballito Live Beach Fest; an easy task for a DJ with a platinum album beneath his belt.

“In 2013 we will be bringing you an enhanced entertainment experience by introducing an extra night of music showcasing an incredible line up with the very best homegrown South African talent. We aim to ensure that our live concert evenings will appeal to a wider audience -  this winter Salt Rock Beach will be the hottest, most happening  place to be, come along and celebrate with us,  it’s all absolutely free.” said KwaDukuza municipality event co-ordinator, Collette Bundy.

With acts of such calibre dominating the stage on all three nights of the concerts, the Live Beach Fest is a must for music lovers all over the country. The event will be defined by the chill beach vibe borrowed from its location, and looks set to be the greatest party of the winter season.

The festival will run concurrently with the ASP PRIME rated Mr Price Pro Ballito surf competition, which draws top surfers from a total of eighteen countries worldwide. South African hero and former world number two, Jordy Smith, will be competing for the event title and for the R2.5 million cash prize. The chosen charity of the Mr Price Pro Ballito Beach Festival is the RedCap Foundation, which carries out invaluable work with South Africa’s youth, ranging from newborn babies to young adults up to the age of twenty-five. They focus specifically on improving the nation’s education system and tackling unemployment among young people. Their aim is to engage, enable and inspire the children who will grow up to become the orchestrators of social change and of a positive future for South Africa.
