The event is open to the top 88 surfers in the world and eight wildcard surfers.
The top South African contenders include the defending champion and world number
two ranked surfer Jordy Smith, Travis Logie, Shaun Joubert, Brandon Jackson, Rudy
Palmboom and Greg Emslie. Eight South African trialists will compete for two slots
into the main event on the first day of competition.
Former event winners Chris Davidson (Australia, 2008) and Tanner Gudauskas (California,
2009) also feature in the event along with rising star Julian Wilson (Australia)
and former world champion CJ Hobgood (USA).
